INTENSIVE SITES

Hong Kong

Lodging:

Regal Airport Hotel
9 Cheong Tat Road
Chek Lap Kok
Hong Kong
Phone: (852) 2286 8888
Fax: (852) 2286 8662
http://www.asia-hotels.com/hotel/Regal_Airport_Hotel.htm

The SAIC GTE Project Office has arranged a block of rooms at the Regal Airport Hotel. Participants must reserve their own room NO LATER THAN JANUARY 2, 2001 by faxing the hotel's reservation form directly to the hotel at (852) 2286 8662.

For those who will go to Guam as part of that aircraft's overnight local flight, you are advised to make your Hong Kong hotel reservation inclusive of that date. The local Guam flight date of March 9 is a "placeholder" but will be sometime within that week, depending on meteorological conditions. To ensure that you do not lose their hotel room, participants involved should not "break" their Hong Kong hotel reservation, especially since the actual Guam local flight date is TBD.

Rental Cars: Not Authorized for SAIC and NASA LARC personnel.

Other Transportation: Shuttle bus between hotel/airport, TRACE-P laboratory facilities, and the NASA airplanes.

Because the Project's contracted lodging facility is co-located with the airport from which TRACE-P will be working, and because there are numerous restaurants in both the hotel and the adjoining airport, it is the Project's policy that train, taxi and other "mass transit" expenses will be considered a personal expense. Only such expenses incurred for business purposes are considered a business expense. The Project will arrange and directly pay for transportation (shuttle bus) between the hotel/airport, the TRACE-P laboratory facilities, and the NASA airplanes.

Arrangements and payment for vehicles will be made directly by the SAIC GTE Project Office. As is the case for the rest of Japan, one drives on the left-hand side of the road on Yokota Air Base. Everyone who will be driving on base must undergo driver training, which will be conducted by a Yokota official.

Other Transportation:

Upon arrival at Narita Airport in Tokyo, those TRACE-P travelers flying commercially will take the Air Force's "Blue Bus" to Yokota. This costs US$25 (payable in US funds ONLY). If asked to produce a military ID, state that you are part of the NASA TRACE-P field mission. (Anyone encountering problems proving that he/she has authority for Yokota access should request that Major Mark Carroll or Mr. Sonny Reeves [DSN Phone Number 225-7811] be contacted for verification). The "Blue Bus" will take you directly to the Kanto Lodge.

Yokota operates an on-base shuttle bus. It operates each day from roughly 6:00 AM until midnight. The bus' rounds include stops at or near the Base Exchange, Commissary, Kanto Lodge, and the hangar from which TRACE-P will operate. Depending on when you will require transportation, the shuttle bus may be an option for those who cannot always coordinate a ride with others in their group, or those who for personal reasons would rather not rent a car on Yokota.
